Rhodes is an island located in Greece, which remains to be a very popular attraction. It is revered as one of Europe’s top tourist attractions- as it boasts a large amount of historical content. The island is near the Greek mainland- making it both readily accessible and extremely popular in travel.
The island of Rhodes was the holder of one of seven wonders of the ancient world. This wonder of the world was named “The Colossus of Rhodes”. This statue stood over 100 feet tall, which gave it a spot in the seven wonders of the ancient world. In 224 B.C., the statue was toppled by an earthquake. The statue still remains to be broken, as repairs would be extremely costly. However, it is expected that work will be done on restoring the statue- which could prove to be a very popular tourist attraction indeed.
Along with the colossal statue, the island of Rhodes can boast a wide variety of interesting and unique architecture. Castles still remain intact that feature an amazing amount of incredible architecture- such as the Castle of Monolithos. These architectural achievements can attest that the history of Rhodes is very unique, and the museums will affirm that this is true. Museums of Rhode hold a variety of artifacts and artworks that are both unique and extremely valuable in both terms of money and artistic value.
The island of Rhodes has an extensive amount of cypress forests and rocky beaches. There are sandy strips along some coasts where tourists can visit- but the majority of coasts are covered in rocks. Citrus fruits, grapes, and vegetation flourish in the Mediterranean climate- which also puts the island of Rhodes in a great situation for wine production. The food has also been reviewed as excellent, thanks to the great amount of seafood and crops that are harvested.
Another point of interest is the medieval section of the island. This section boasts an incredible amount of medieval architecture and culture. Buildings and castles line this section of the island, which makes another popular tourist attraction. In fact, most of the economy of this island is dependant upon this tourism- which it can readily supply thanks to medieval districts and many great attractions. It should be noted that attractions such as the medieval section of Rhodes often include higher prices than other less-popular towns or cities- so it is good to make wise choices in where items or goods are bought.
Rhodes is by far one of the most unique islands- and not just because the island holds a wonder of the ancient world. Rhodes offers many tourist attractions that its economy depends on- which also hint that such attractions are worth seeing. From woodlands to several strips of luxurious beaches- Rhodes has a lot of relaxation potential. Wineries and restaurants also boast a very unique service to tourists- so it is no wonder that the island of Rhodes was voted one of the top travel destinations in all of Greece, not to mention Europe.
